Top Ten Tuesday: “Older” Books I Don’t Want People To Forget About

2nd Oct 2012 Jess @ Gone with the Words 2012, Features/Memes, Top Ten Tuesday

*sings* Don’t you..forget about me. Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t!! The books I’m about to list are only a few years old, not ancient, but I wanted to bring them to your attention in case they weren’t on your radar or in case you forgot they were released. So here we go!
poisonstudyPoison Study (Study #1) by Maria V. Snyder – This series is a MUST read for all fantasy fans. It’s SO well written. Seriously. Kick-ass heroine, sexy hero, high-stakes, awesome knife-fighting. Yup. Get on it.
insideInside (Insider #1-2) by Maria V. Snyder – Again!! Another Maria V. Snyder creation!! This one is for the dystopian/sci-fi fans. I kind of wish there was just one more book in this series…maybe even just a short story. I felt it could’ve gone there.
thedemonslexicon-pbThe Demon’s Lexicon (The Demon’s Lexicon #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan – I know Sarah’s been getting a lot of attention lately for her new release, Unspoken, but my love for her started with a demon who wormed his way to my heart. This series is magic, and it has such great humor in it. I recommend you make time for it.
brightlywovenBrightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken – OMG this book SO needs a sequel!! But while we wait—and it might be a forever kind of wait—let me suggest this great book for my fantasy fans. It didn’t really end on a cliffhanger, so don’t worry, but it left it open for more. Anyway, yeah. Pick it up!!
wickedgameWicked Game (WVMP Radio #1) by Jeri Smith-Ready – The lonely adult book in the bunch!! If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, especially vampires, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! Also if you like music, as it does revolve around a radio station and music is all over this book. I mean, hello! The title is also song.
shineShine by Lauren Myracle – This book really stayed with me. It was a mystery, wrapped up in an issue book. Definitely recommend it.
hookedHooked by Catherine Greenman – This was such a great, realistic way to tell a story about a teen getting pregnant. It doesn’t glamourize it, and it doesn’t romanticize it, it’s just honest. It was really great.
playinghurtPlaying Hurt by Holly Schindler – I thought this book was steamy! Which I always appreciate in YA…but it’s not your typical YA romance either. Our main character does have issues, and there is cheating in the book, but in the end it was a really good book.
ParadiseParadise by Jill S. Alexander – This book is…beautiful, really. And like so many beautiful things, sometimes they’re also devastating. That’s all I’ve got to say about that. Now read it. :) You can yell at me later.
balladlamentLament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception (Books of Faerie #1) AND Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie (Books of Faerie #2) by Maggie Stiefvater – I love both of these books…maybe BALLAD more than LAMENT, and if you’re a fan of Maggie’s books, or a fan of faeries you totally need them. TOTALLY!! And soon we’re getting book 3!!

We seem to have pretty different reading tastes (a few of these books I just was not a fan of), but I did really love SHINE. Devastating and all too real.

  2. Nina

I really want to read Hooked. I only read one book about teen pregnancy and I want to read more about it. :)
    Great list.

  3. Jamie

Haven’t read any of these but I have a few on my TBR list or bookshelf — Brightly Woven, Playing Hurt (I’ve heard AMAZING things about), Hooked & Shine! I have heard of the Poison Study and seems like people LOVE that series!

  4. Ginger @ GReads!

I actually read Wicked Game long before I started book blogging, Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined being part of Jeri’s Team Kilt and all the fantastic things because of it. (Granted I know it’s a different series, but Wicked Game was my first introduction to Jeri).

I read the ballad/Lament duo this year and they were good! Stiefvater is quickly evolving as an author, getting better and better. I think Scorpio Races is her best work but I liked this series too. Here’s Ours

  6. Alisia

Maria V Snyder is one of my favorite authors!!! I have all of the study series, the first of the glass series and the first of the healer series!

I need to read the second book in the Insider series. I also need to start on the Books of Farie as well. And talking about Maggie Stiefvater book reminds me i need to read the last installment in the Wolves of Mercy Falls series.

Ah! I just just just took Paradise out of the library last night, and I can’t wait to read it! I’m so glad you had it on your list. I haven’t seen it anywhere and I spied it at B&N a few months ago and haven’t stopped thinking about reading it.

    Great list!!
