Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon

2011, Read-a-thon

So after seeing how excited Jacinda (The Reading Housewives of Indiana) and April (Good Books and Good Wine) were on Twitter about this #readathon, and seeing how I’ve never done one, I’ve decided to participate!!

Can I do it?! We’ll see. :)

For 24 hours, beginning October 22nd – 7am CST, all participants read books, post reading updates on their blogs, and visit each other’s blogs! You can also also participate in mini-challenges throughout the day and win prizes!! If you would like more information on how you can sign up, go to their site –> Dewey’s Read-a-Thon

I’m a very indecisive person when it comes to picking what to read next, so I’ve pulled a few books to choose from. Also, I’m letting Random.org select them for me. That’s right! Numbers 1 through 14…pick one, Random.org!

I don’t think I’ll get through all of them, but I have selected some that are not too long because I do want to get through as many of these as possible.

I will begin the read-a-thon by completing the book I’m currently reading, THE IRON KNIGHT by Julie Kagawa, then I will begin my stack:

1. Witness on the Run by Hope White
2. Cut by Patricia McCormick
3. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
4. Vampire Academy: A Graphic Novel
5. Love Story by Jennifer Echols
6. Eyes in the Mirror by Julia Mayer
7. Damage by Anya Parrish
8. Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick by Joe Schreiber
9. Between the Sea and Sky by Jaclyn Dolamore
10. How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr
11. Hooked by Catherine Greenman
12. Want to Go Private? by Sarah Littman
13. Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris
14. The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

As far as snacks go, I plan to eat everything in my apartment until food runs! If in fact I run out of stuff  to eat, I’ll send out an S.O.S.

As far as UPDATES go, I plan to just come back to this post and update regularly throughout the 24 hours. I yet don’t know how often these will be, we’ll see once it starts!

Ok, let’s DO THIS!! Let me know if you’re participating in the comments! Leave me your blog link. :)

See ya in the morning!

Your first readathon?!?!?! YAY! How EXCITING! I LOVE readathons! Like, seriously LOVE THEM. I’m excited for you! Hope you have LOTS of fun reading! Some of the books in your stack are awesome! :D

  2. Vasilly

I’m participating tomorrow as a reader and cheerleader. Your stack looks great. I haven’t read The Duff though it’s on my tbr list. Happy reading!

  3. Shannon

Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick is such an awesome name for a book!! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!! I hope you enjoy your first readathon!!

  4. JP

Yay! Welcome to your first readathon! I LOVE them and participate in them all the time, but this is my first Dewey’s 24 Read-a-Thon. I hear it is the best! You have some great books picked out (I read Cut and Au Revoir, Crazy European Chick. Quite a few of your other books are on my TBR/Wish list). What a fun way to decide what to read next! I love that idea!

Good luck to you! My starting post is here: http://elle-lit.blogspot.com/2011/10/preparations-for-24-hour-read-thon-t.html

  5. forloveandbooks

Best of luck!! (I’m actually insanely jealous. I have too many plans tomorrow that I can’t participate… maybe in 2 weeks I’ll actually get to do my reading I want. )

  6. Maria

My advice is to stick with light and short books – It’s easier not to burn out that way. But most importantly – have fun! :)

  7. Bookgoonie

Cracking me up. If you keep updating, you won’t get anything read. I have to refuse to pick up my phone during these things or I get nothing accomplished. You go girl!!!

  8. Amanda @ On a Book Bender

Go Jess Go!  You can do it!  :)  Also, I hear Twitter is a big time suck.  Not that I would know anything about that. *lies*
PS. I’ve also got Cut on my TBR list. Not for a readathon, though.

  9. Lisa Schensted

    h-town REPRESENT.

and i am so excited for you to read Love Story. (get a fan or a cold shower ready)

    go go go!

  10. Lratrandom

Wow, you’re incredibly organized with your updates, etc.! Keep up the great work!!

  11. Trish

Yay!! I’m so glad that you decided to join the readathon! Twitter is very addiction–have to shut it down when I don’t want to be on so I’m not tempted (but then there’s the phone…)  LOL!

Hope you’ll be back in the spring!

  12. Jacinda @ Reading Housewives

I’m so happy you did this with me! You read more pages than I did!

  13. Elizabeth

Glad you had fun with your first readathon! Looks like you got a lot of reading in!
I loved Au Revoir Crazy European Chick! It would’ve made a good readathon book too, nice and light!
