Bright Young Things, the first book in this series, did not end with the happiest of storylines. Cordelia, Astrid, and Letty were all dealing with some heartbreaking issues. And while in this book things seem to be looking up for all three girls by the end, it did leave me with a feeling of foreboding, like it’s the calm before the storm. In the first book’s prologue, we’re told that of the three girls, “one would be famous, one would be married, and one would be dead.” While you may think the ending of this book seals their fates, I still can’t be sure. I think Ms. Godbersen is going to surprise me in the end.
We got lots of Charlie and Astrid drama in this book. A volatile relationship, that one. One minute they’re so happy together, the other they’re at each other’s throats. I have to admit, Charlie scares me sometimes. He’s like a time-bomb.
Cordelia is trying hard to move on after Thom Hale destroyed her heart. She finally has a run in with the trick pilot she rescued at the end of the first book, Max Darby. He was hard to figure out!! But I admit to being as intrigued by him as Cord was. And Thom Hale is still in the picture somehow, but I don’t know what to make of him right now. I feel like he’s just a victim of circumstance, but maybe I just want him to be a good guy.
Now, Letty…oh, my poor Letty. She worries me the most. I think it’s because she gets so low when she’s down. And she’s just so naive sometimes! I really hope she doesn’t end up getting herself into anything bad. Also, I kind of wish things would’ve turned out differently with Grady.
When I read Bright Young Things last year, I fell in love. I fell for the characters, the time period, the story…and now it has happened again. To say this series sweeps me away would be an understatement. I am gone. Totally enthralled.
