Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart.

Shadow and Bone is one of those books I’ve had on my shelves forever and I don’t know why I didn’t read it sooner. I LOVED IT. The world, the characters, THE DARKLING.

DAMMIT, THE DARKLING!

The Darkling had me like…

But by the end I was like…

It was a beautifully written book and it was wonderfully performed by Lauren Fortgang. It brought on SO many emotions. The world was so vivid and dark! I just completely fell in love with all of it. I can’t wait to read on! I hear there’s a Sturmhond or something I should keep an eye out for?

Yayyy! I’m glad it made you happy because it made me happy to FINALLY have read it! Those graphics really are beautiful. If you click them it’ll take you to the tumblr page where the owner has more Shadow & Bone related posts! (If you’re interested, of course. haha) I really can’t wait to read on!

Oh great! AWESOME. I’ve meaning to re-try reading this. I got almost all the way through and….had to DNF it. But, I’d like to see if that was just a fluke. I vaguely recall having finals, which usually means my brain is fried and smoke is coming out. Did you make those quote poster thingies yourself? I’d like to learn how to make quote banners or images, whatever they are called, myself. But, I don’t know how.

Ha! I WISH I could make those type of graphics! No, it wasn’t me, but if you click the image it shows you the profile of the artist.

I would definitely give it another try. Maybe try the audiobook (if you listen to them)? It was really great! But don’t feel bad if it was the book and not you after all. :)

MY GOSH THAT PICTURE OF THE DARKLING WITH THE SLIPKNOT LYRICS? I’M SAVING THAT FOR MY LIFE <33333

This was such an awesome interview, I agree 150% and just saying, by the third book, you'll feel like Leigh herself is clog dancing on your heart. But oops, I shouldn't say anymore!

Oh Jess, how I agree with you on The Darkling… sigh The Darkling. Even, after we found out what he really was… I still swoon. :D
The audio book is very well narated. I love a good naration. I have listened to some extremely bad ones, which make it a real struggle to finish a book, even if the book itself is good.
