See, What Happened Was…

2013, Newsletter

You guys might notice this blog looks…a little different. Yeah. Let me explain….

So what had happened was…recently I hit a wall when it came to blogging. I haven’t felt like doing it. At all. It’s not that I’m not reading, because I am! I’ve read some seriously amazing books lately (I’m looking at your Clockwork Princess!!)…but writing up reviews for them? Nope. Haven’t had it in me. I wanted something to reignite my blogging fire, and so at first I thought about learning more about the technical side of blog design, but soon I got completely overwhelmed by it all. And then I didn’t want to know anything technical at all…I realized I just want to read and give you guys my thoughts and I’m tired of trying to keep up with everything and everyone else.

Part of my blogging New Year’s resolution was to get back to basics…and that is what this is. I don’t want to deal with all the hosting bullcrap anymore, but I do love WordPress, so I decided to move my blog to WordPress.com and leave .org. Yeah, I know I’m losing lots of customization features, but I don’t even care about that right now. I’m currently pretty freaking satisfied with this decision. Somehow it feels like I’ve alleviated some sort of pressure.

And, so! This design isn’t as fancy as my previous one, but I was able to keep my kick-ass header image, which was the main thing for me. You’ll also notice that there’s no sidebar…no worries! Just scroll on down to the bottom of the page (only 4 posts deep, people!) and you’ll find the important things in my footer widgets. :)

I’m excited. Are you guys excited?!

Really, it’s not a big deal. I just wanted to explain myself in case you guys stopped by and wondered what the hell had happened here.

Congrats on the change! Whatever alleviates stress and lets you get back to enjoying your hobby – I’m all for it. :D

  2. Jessica@a GREAT read

Well you gotta do what you gotta do! The blog design is still very nice! Glad to hear you aren’t leaving us just yet!

Since I still use Blogger, I have no idea how WordPress works and all that jazz. But whatever keeps you around & makes you happy, makes me happy too :) The design looks simple & clean — both of which I like!

I completely understand. When I need a boost in motivation, I tend to play with my blog’s design. I’m glad that you kept your awesome header. Hope everything goes well with reading and reviewing!

I’m still on blogger but I want to scale back too. I know it’s irrational but I feel like my design hinders my blogging right now. I’m burned out and don’t want to worry about all the extras so I get where you’re coming from.

Whatever works for you! And I think it looks great!

That was my main thing, I didn’t want to think about the details of the blog or the extras things happening on the sidebar. I think this will work for me now. :) I hope you find something that works for you too, though!!

I read this earlier on my phone but couldn’t comment because I was at a school function with my girls (ssshhh, phones were supposed to be off!) but I love this and I’m so happy you’re happy and ALL OF THAT. Looks fantastic, Jess!

Aww, I totally understand. You should see if there’s someone who can move your blog and design to WP. Or maybe someone who can closely replicate it for WP. That’s what I asked for when I moved. I used Cialina, and she was great. :)

I’m happy for you Jess, I totally understand how overwhelming it all becomes sometimes. That’s why I’m not stressing so much about having to post everyday and just post when I actually have something worthwhile and when I have the time, if the week is too busy I just do it whenever I can. I’ve been debating getting rid of some things on my sidebar too, like the followers thing. It drives me a little bit crazy. Love the new simple design. =)

Thanks, Cynthia! Being more laid back is something I need right now, and so far, it seems to be working for me. :) I also got rid of my feedburner counter thing in hopes I don’t stress about it anymore. haha

I totally understand. That is why I hadn’t made the move. I love to read & share BUT I don’t want to work that hard at it. I don’t want to spend that time jacking with stuff. I’d rather pick up another book.

Glad you’ve gotten it back to something you can enjoy.
