Teen Book Con 2012

2012, Teen Book Con

TeenBookConThis past Saturday I attended Houston’s annual Teen Book Con, where I got to hang out with some of my favorite bookish friends and see/meet some incredible authors.

This was my second time attending and it was just as great. I can honestly say that I will attend Teen Book Con for as long as they have them.

I got to sit in a few great panels! My favorite were:

ADULTS ARE OVERRATED
Orson Scott Card
Inara Scott
Jessica Spotswood
Maggie Stiefvater
REALITY BITES
Jesse Andrews
Elizabeth Eulberg
Lisa McMann
Ruta Sepetys
Siobhan Vivian

Out of these two groups, Ruta Sepetys story about her research for writing Between Shades of Gray was the most memorable and moving. She describe how she signed up to take part in a simulation experience in a former Soviet prison, where they didn’t hold back because she was a woman. She was beaten, y’all! CRAZY! I was almost in tears listening to her story.

Aside from that very moving moment, there were mostly laughs all. day. LONG! I did get a couple of pictures, thanks to my friend Lena of Addicted 2 Novels, and lots of signed books! Take a look!

WOW I love how Maggie drew the horse on The Scorpio Races! Looks like a lot of fun! I’ve never been to a big event like that – I live so far away from them. But one of these days, one of these days…

I LOVE that horse!! And she’s such a pro, she drew it on everyone’s Scorpio Races! It took her like 5 seconds to draw it. One day we’ll be together at a book convention and that will be the most glorious event ever! :)

I like how the rim of my glasses are blocking my eyes, lol.  So glad we got to hang out on Saturday.  GLASSES TRIPLETS FOR LIFE!

  3. Missie Bee

Gah! Why do I have to live so far away from H-town and why is gas so expensive? Not cool. LOL

Thanks for sharing these awesome picture. Glad you had fun. And it is just me, or does Maggie Stiefvater look exactly the same in every picture she takes?

  4. Jacinda @ Reading Housewives

I’m jealous of Holly Black… :) I think every YA author was busy this past weekend, huh? :)

  5. Magan @ Rather Be Reading

Wow, Jess! I had no idea Ruta Sepetys did that for research. That’s so amazing. Very respectable that she wanted her story to be so authentic. Can’t wait to see you on Thursday! :)
