Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Broke My Heart A Little

Surprisingly enough, there hasn’t been too many books that left me sad at the end…but I dug up a few for you guys. :)

TTT021312a

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices #2) by Cassandra Clare – This is the most recent of my heartbreaks. Have you read it yet? Yeah….HEARTBREAKING! #TeamWillForever (My “review”)

Paradise by Jill S. Alexander – This book has a devastating ending. I was seriously SO shocked…but man, is it beautifully written. (My Review)

Bloodrose (Nightshade #3) by Andrea Cremer – Oh, man. I guess it’s only heartbreaking if you were rooting for one particular team and not the other. I’m not going to tell you, and PLEASE don’t give spoilers about it in the comments.BUT! If you have read it, YOU KNOW! *bawls* (My Review)

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games #3) by Suzanne Collins – Oh, come ON! Who wasn’t heartbroken by the events in this book?! SO many people died!! And my poor Peeta… *sigh* He went through hell…

The Demon’s Lexicon (The Demon’s Lexicon #1) by Sarah Rees Brennan – The thing that broke my heart about this book was everything surrounding Nick…and also Alan. Two brothers whose only purpose in life is to protect one another. And then we find out the truth and my heart broke for them. :(

One author makes the list with three books…THREE!!

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy #3) by Richelle Mead – I remember sitting in my dark living room, at 3AM, on a workday, in tears! OMG, DIMITRI!! I didn’t know what heartbreak for a character I loved felt like until the end of this book.

Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid #3) by Richelle Mead – So here I was again, in love with another guy Richelle Mead has so perfectly crafted…I was (and still am) very much in love with Seth. The ending to this book completely destroyed me. I mean, I felt like it was happening to me and not the characters! Crazy, right?!

Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid #4) by Richelle Mead – So about a week’s gone by since I was utterly destroyed by Succubus Dreams, and I’m ready to see where in the hell it’s going to go from there. I’m still pissed mind you, and our main character is too to top it off, lol. And then what happens? This ending is even worse!! It is not happy at. all!! I am now even more heartbroken, if that’s even possible, lol.(Don’t worry….the next book totally starts to mend my poor, little heart. And then the last book in the series has me soaring with happiness, making it one of my all-time favorites.)

These two broke my heart throughout the whole book, but then redeemed themselves in the end.

We’ll Always Have Summer (Summer #3) by Jenny Han – I spent most of this book in a state of…yearning. It was heart-wrenching knowing two people who are supposed to be together were not. So close and yet so far! It was hard seeing them apart!

Where She Went (If I Stay #2) by Gayle Forman – It’s pretty much the same thing with this one as with We’ll Always Have Summer…yearning, but with so much hurt. This book is just so…so everything! *sigh*

I know I say this on a weekly (daily?) basis – but I REALLY need to read If I Stay/Where She Went… (In fact? I shall start that in the morning, since I am saying Goodbye to Marcus Flutie tonight…)

Come see my Top Ten / Teaser Tuesday!

I’m pretty sure I will never recover from Mockingjay, that book is the definition of emotional damage. I’ve only read it the once!

  3. Steph

OMG, SHADOW KISS. My feelings toward Dimitri changed in the later books, but I was so completely heartbroken in this one. It was crazy and I still can’t believe Richelle Mead went THERE. It was so, so good.

    Great list!

  4. Christa (Hooked on Books)

I was a mess after Mockingjay. And then I re-read and was a mess all over again.

Also I’m totally with you in regards to Clockwork Prince #TeamWillForever

I almost put Where She Went on my list, too, because wow. I think Mockingjay will be on everybody’s list who has read it!

I am in the middle of Vampire Academy so I am a little nervous about what happens to Dimitri!  Ahh!  Must read faster!  I completely agree with Mockinjay…Peeta made me ball my eyes out!

I haven’t read Clockwork Prince yet, but now I’m afraid to!! I still will. But you know, now I’m worried :)

Mockingjay was sooo good. And, If I Stay? Sobfest over here.

  8. Jen D.

I’m with you on Mockingjay.  When she recognizes the duck tail.  *sigh*  I damn near dropped the book and got into the fetal position.

  9. As the Crowe Flies and Reads

Great list! I had the first Gayle Foreman book on my list this week.

Oh my! The only one of these that I’ve read is Mockingjay. I haven’t read the Cassie Clare book yet…I haven’t worked up the nerve…and I have the Jenny Han series books 2 & 3 but not book 1. What’s with me? I don’t know. I just don’t know. Mockingjay didn’t exactly break my heart, but it TOTALLY confused me and made me like WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

Or WAIT. Yes it did, because in the end, I was on the other team. Yes, I remember now…

  11. OUAC - Stephanie

Mockingjay made my list too! It was pretty devastating emotionally. Oh no!? I’ve only read Vampire Academy. I’m afraid to know what happens to Dimitri! Looks like those books just got bumped up the TBR pile. ;)

  12. Darlene Rawlins

I agree on Clockwork Prince and Mockingjay! They were both so full of heartache (but in totally different ways). I also am pretty sure I would agree about Where She Went if I ever get around to reading it because If I Stay was so sad for me.

  13. Molli

I love your list.  I’ve read some and agree, while others are on my TBR.  Shadow Kiss.  Oh, I remember finishing it and just being kind of broken.  And Mockingjay.  Oh God.  Mockingjay.  I can’t even describe all the ways/reasons that book destroyed me.  :/

    My Top Ten

  14. Jasmine Rose

I really need to read the Summer Series. Ginger’s always singing their praises and I’ve seen them on loads of Top Ten lists so I’m fairly certain I’ll like them, but there’s that whole “too many books, too little time” problem :P

  15. BookTasty

Oh Mockingjay! My heart hated all the parts with Peeta and what had been
    done to him!!
