A weekly feature hosted by GReads! where we showcase some good tunes! :)

I LOVE THIS EDITION!! I can’t wait to show you guys some of my favorite book/songs combos. Some I will have mentioned before and some will be new. I hope you like all of them. :)

The Fault in Our Stars by John GreenA The Fault in our Stars by John Green and Timshel by Mumford & Sons

Cold is the water
It freezes your already cold mind
Already cold, cold mind
And death is at your doorstep
And it will steal your innocence
But it will not steal your substance

But you are not alone in this
And you are not alone in this
As brothers we will stand and we’ll hold your hand
Hold your hand

And you are the mother
The mother of your baby child
The one to whom you gave life
And you have your choices
And these are what make man great
His ladder to the stars

But you are not alone in this
And you are not alone in this
As brothers we will stand and we’ll hold your hand
Hold your hand

And I will tell the night
Whisper, “Lose your sight”
But I can’t move the mountains for you

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay AsherThirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher and How to Save a Life by The Fray

Step one, you say we need to talk
He walks, you say sit down, it’s just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life

Shine by Lauren MyracleShine by Lauren Myracle and Pain by Jimmy Eat World

I don’t feel the way I’ve ever felt
I know
I’m gonna smile and not get worried
I try but it shows
Anyone can make what I have built
And better now
Anyone can find the same white pills
It takes my pain away
[…]
I never thought I’d walk away from you
I did
But it’s a false sense of accomplishment
Every time I quit
Anyone can see my every flaw
It isn’t hard
Anyone can say they’re above this all
It takes my pain away

Shade by Jeri Smith-ReadyShade by Jeri Smith-Ready and Existentialism On Prom Night by Straylight Run

When the sun came up,
We were sleeping in,
Sunk inside our blankets,
Sprawled across the bed,
And we were dreaming

There are moments when,
When I know it and
The world revolves around us,
And we’re keeping it,
Keep it all going,
This delicate balance,
Vulnerable all knowing

Sing like you think no one’s listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would

Sing like you think no one’s listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would, you would…

Sing me something soft,
Sad and delicate,
Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything,
we’re glad for what we’ve got,
Done with what we’ve lost
Our whole lives laid out right in front of us

Sing like you think no one’s listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would

Sing like you think no one’s listening,
You would kill for this,
Just a little bit,
Just a little bit,
You would, you would…

Sing me something soft,
Sad and delicate,
Or loud and out of key,
Sing me anything.

About Jeri Smith-Ready

Award-winning author Jeri Smith-Ready lives in Maryland with her husband and two cats. Her plans to save the earth were ruined when she realized she was more of a “problem maker” than a problem solver. To stay out of trouble, she keeps her Drama Drive strictly fictional. Her friends and family appreciate that.

When not writing, Jeri she can usually be found—well, thinking about writing, or on Twitter. Like her characters, she loves music, movies, and staying up very, very late. She is represented by Ginger Clark at Curtis Brown, Ltd.

Love your book picks! And, from what I know of the books, your song picks are perfect. Yay for Shade!!!! I have TFiOS and 13 Reasons Why to read…so I’ll be coming back to these songs. And now I KNOW I’ll cry. Have not read Shie yet, but now need to get my hands on it. Also…LOVE Mumford and Sons. *sigh*

MUMFORD AND SONS!  That’s perfect for TFIOS!  I still need to read that, lol.  And yes, The Fray for Thirteen Reasons!  Geez, I need you to make me a book soundtrack, lol.

Oh you did so good on the books I have read, I love Straylight Run and Mumford. I will have to check out the other books esp. the ones with songs I really like!

  7. Cindy

I love Mumford & Sons but hadn’t heard that song before. I love it now. I am really looking forward to read The Fault in Our Stars and liked the connection you made between the two.

The only book I have read from your list is Thirteen Reasons Why and I think “How to Save a Life” is a perfect choice for it.

Loved the rest of your picks too!

  8. Ninja Girl

Great songs! I love Jimmy Eat World, miss them. I should go find my old cd. Also, never heard the last song, so thanks for that.

I also love the Mumford & Sons pick, even though I’ve yet to read The Fault in Our Stars. Also, “How to Save a Life” is a fantastic pick for Thirteen Reasons Why! I loved that book when I first read it four or five years ago, and I’m really wanting to do a reread some time in the near future! I LOVE the song “Pain” by Jimmy Eat World too! It’s so emotional! Straylight Run is new to me, but I like them! The piano at the beginning of the song was beautiful! Thanks for sharing your picks, Jess! :)
