Tune in Tuesday: Book Playlists - Anna and the French Kiss | Lola and the Boy Next Door | We’ll Always Have Summer | Where She Went

A weekly feature hosted by GReads! where we showcase some good tunes! :)

This week I give you The Contemps. :) Possibly my favorite playlist yet.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins*sigh*Our dearest Anna & Etienne…this song is for them because they never could tell each other how they felt. They could only daydream about declaring their feelings to one another and be together. :)

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins & If It Kills Me by Jason Mraz

Hello, tell me you know
Yeah, you figured me out
Something gave it away
It would be such a beautiful moment
To see the look on your face
To know that I know that you know now
And baby that’s a case of my wishful thinking
You know nothing
Well you and I
Why, we go carrying on for hours on end
We get along much better
Than you and your boyfriend

Well all I really wanna do is love you
A kind much closer than friends use
But I still can’t say it after all we’ve been through
And all I really want from you is to feel me
As the feeling inside keeps building
And I will find a way to you if it kills me
If it kills me

How long, can I go on like this,
Wishing to kiss you,
Before I rightly explode?
This double life I lead isn’t healthy for me
In fact it makes me nervous
If I get caught I could be risking it all
Cause maybe there’s a lot that I miss
In case I’m wrong

If I should be so bold
I’d ask you to hold my heart in your hand
I’d tell you from the start how I’ve longed to be your man
But I never said a word
I guess I’m gonna miss my chance again

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie PerkinsThere’s a scene near the end of the book where Cricket tells Lola a story about stars…instantly thought of this song :)

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins & Yellow by Coldplay

“…and the stars would double into four. And four became eight, and eight became sixteen, and so on, in the greatest mathematical equation the universe had ever seen. And by the time an hour had passed, the sky would be filled with so many stars that it would wake his neighbors. People wondered who’d turned on the floodlights.”

“The boy did. By thinking about the girl.”

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
[…]
Your skin,
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into something beautiful,
[…]
It’s true,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine.
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And all the things that you do.

We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny HanOh, man, did this book bring the tears!! Belly and Conrad…this is SO their song!! *runs away crying*

We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han & Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy

I never want to see you unhappy
I thought you’d want the same for me
Goodbye, my almost lover
Goodbye, my hopeless dream
I’m trying not to think about you
Can’t you just let me be?
So long, my luckless romance
My back is turned on you
I should’ve known you’d bring me heartache
Almost lovers always do
[…]
I cannot go to the ocean
I cannot drive the streets at night
I cannot wake up in the morning
Without you on my mind

So you’re gone and I’m haunted
And I bet you are just fine
Did I make it that easy
To walk right in and out of my life?

SO much about this song is Adam…SO MUCH! From the way the music starts then rises when he hits the “RAAAAGE” part, then comes back down. And the lyrics! I can’t even…*sigh*

The part in the song “A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage” and the scene where Adam snaps and begins writing songs again?! Seriously! Just..whoa.

Where She Went by Gayle FormanThis song is the embodiment of Adam in Where She Went.

Where She Went by Gayle Forman & White Blank Page by Mumford & Sons

Can you lie next to her
And give her your heart, your heart
As well as your body
And can you lie next to her
And confess your love, your love
As well as your folly
And can you kneel before the king
And say I’m clean, I’m clean

But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
But tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart
A white blank page and a swelling rage, rage
You did not think when you sent me to the brink, the brink
You desired my attention but denied my affections, my affections

Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life
Lead me to the truth and I will follow you with my whole life

I always look forward to your playlist picks! The first two were perfect. Can’t wait to read The Summer Series (I have all 3 and plan to read them on vacation next month…it’s practically summer here already) and Where She Went.

  2. Ginger @ GReads!

Oh dear god. JESS!! I am dying. You keep bringing the awesome each week with these playlists.  First, that quote from Lola – aaaahhhhhh!!! It’s my favorite. Makes my heart flutter in to a million little butterflies – and then you paired it with COLDPLAY?! Love.

Belly & Conrad…… you know my love for this series. That song is perfect. Good lord is it perfect.

And then you had to go & talk about Adam.. and that scene.. and omg him on the bridge, screaming out.. HOLY CRAP. I love it all. so so so much.

I’m sure I’ve commented before about how much I love Mumford & Sons so I’ll just leave this:  <3.

Almost Lover is one of my favourite songs! I love Alisons voice. So beautiful!

  6. Eleanor

Ooh lovely picks! :) Funnily enough I remember thinking of “Yellow” when I was reading Lola, and If it Kills Me fits Anna & Etienne so well! (<3) Unfortunately I haven't read the other two books but I do love Mumford & Sond and A Fine Frenzy! :D

  7. Bianca

I absolutely love Almost Lover. I used to play it on repeat all the time and now I fear I will be doing it again. The rest of your picks are also great :)

  8. Katelyn Torrey

I am just going to say that I am part of the common consensus that yes you rock, your blog rock, and the musical playlists you have thought up this week rock. Seriously, I love all your picks even if I haven’t read all the books…yet!

White Blank Page KILLS me every time I hear it. I have always thought it for Logan from Jeri Smith-Ready’s Shade series but it’s fits perfect for Where She Went too.
I love Yellow for Lola too. SOund just like Cricket!
