Tune in Tuesday – Concert Edition: 2005 Vans Warped Tour

A weekly feature hosted by GReads! where we showcase some good tunes! :)

I had one of the most AMAZING times at this festival…serious. rockin’. time!! I saw some bands that are still favorites today, even if they’re not around any more. What I love most about these bands is how much feeling they’ve put into these lyrics! And yes, they are very ANGSTY!! LOVE IT!! I like it in my YA and I like it in my music! I will now showcase some of them…. :) Prepare to take a trip back to 2005!

Make Out Kids by Motion City Soundtrack

Still one of my favorite bands today!! I’ve seen them 3 or 4 times in concert.

“They carved a message deep within
our broken hearts that failed to mend:
Make out kids never had a chance to be best friends.”

Take Me Away by Plain White T’s

Probably one of the most angsty bands on this list…I love these boys. *sigh*

“You know who just walked in and she didn’t come alone…
I can’t stand to see this, get me home.”

For Fiona by No Use For A Name

I’ve always loved this song…but I’ve always wondered if it was written for a daughter or little sister more than for a girlfriend or ex. Regardless, I love it lots. :)

“I can’t even think of words to match the way I’m feeling
I don’t even think a book could say enough for you
I can only try my best, to put it in a song I guess”

Ohio Is For Lovers by Hawthorne Heights

This song was such a huge hit that year! I was certainly into it. :)

“Spare me just three last words
“I love you” is all she heard
I’ll wait for you, but I can’t wait forever”

My Girl’s Ex-boyfriend by Relient K

This album…*sigh* This was one of the albums that got me through some things! “Which to Bury, Us or the Hatchet?” was pivotal!! But I wanted showcase this song, which my fiance used to sing to me. :)

“He’s a guy that you should feel sorry for
He had the world but he thought that he wanted more
I owe it all to the mistake he made back then
I owe it all to my girl’s ex-boyfriend”

Swing, Swing by The All-American Rejects

This band writes some of my favorite lyrics ever. Look their self-titled album and just listen to the words…so sad!! And, c’mon…Tyson Ritter’s eyes are to die for! Though he’s not looking quite as hot these days. :(

“Days swiftly come and go, I’m dreaming of her
She’s seeing other guys, Emotions they stir”

Grand Theft Autumn by Fall Out Boy

This is another album that I listened to on repeat and got me through those same things…I love it. (The third album that helped me is Snow Patrol’s Final Straw, in case you were wondering) I can listen to this forever, no lie! :) And I love this lyric below…

“I’m willing to take my chances on the hope I forget that you hate him more than you notice I wrote this for you”

You know what’s so funny (and cool about Warped) is that I went to Warped 2005 in Cleveland and didn’t see any of those bands, yet I saw a whole day of music and had an amazing time, too.

  2. Mandie Baxter

Wow, some great bands! All American Rejects, Plain White Ts, some others I haven’t heard of but are great and OMG YOU GOT TO SEE FALL OUT BOY?! I LOVE THEM! Haha. And I’m not afraid to admit it. :D I listen to “From Under a Cork Tree” over and over all the time, it’s my favorite. Love the song you posted too. They just have such a distinct sound. Ah….This made my day!

As usual, LOVE THIS.  I have definitely been known to SING OUT OF CONTROL while blaring Fall Out Boy, especially that song.  Also, a few weeks ago you wrote your post about The Format?  Mine & my husband’s band like that is Motion City Soundtrack :)  Another perfect entry, music twin!

Yay for fellow Warped Tour lover!!!! I couldn’t even tell you which one of these songs is my favorite because I love them all so much! Hawthorne Heights, Plain White T’s, All-American Rejects, jeez….amazing picks!

This post is crammed with awesomeness, I’m not gonna lie. Relient K! The All-American Rejects! Plain White T’s! Motion City Soundtrack! And Fiona? I had totally forgotten how much I love that song… thanks for reminding me! :)

I love me some Relient K. And I didn’t even realize Tyson Ritter looked that old until I watched this video :P I was super obsessed with Fall Out Boy for a short while too. It feels like forever ago!
