August wasn’t really great for me mental health wise but I did get in quite a few audiobooks, movies, and shows! Check it out…
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, Read by Amy McFadden – I hadn’t read a dystopian novel in a looooong time and it was very much like visiting an old friend. I enjoyed it and the ending got me to shed a tear. I don’t know if I’ll continue with the rest of the series but I’m glad I listened to this one before the movie. Like, VERY glad. See below in movies.
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, Read by Lynn Chen – This book was a delight! I really, really liked it a lot and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series, especially now that we have a movie sequel coming! Yay!
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, Read by Ann Marie Lee – I’ve been meaning to read this book for a long time! Ever since I read Gone Girl and was blown away. I was very much enthralled from the get-go.
Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo, Read by Mozhan Marno – Leigh Bardugo perfectly captured screen Wonder Woman’s nuances in this book. I don’t know if she was going for that but I really appreciated it as a fan of the movie. The story was really intriguing and kept me listening even when I wasn’t at work anymore (which is when I do my audiobook listening). Awesome job!
Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu, Read by Will Damron – Marie Lu wrote the most perfect teen Bruce Wayne ever, I swear! He was angsty, but mature beyond his years and a total heartthrob. I wasn’t that captivated by the story in this one though, but I really, really liked Bruce and his friends.
The Darkest Minds – There’s a reason this movie didn’t do that well. It was just ok. Classic case of “the book was better.” The performances were great though and the ending got me just like the book’s ending did.
The Spy Who Dumped Me – I mean, Mila and Kate are just hilarious in this. I had a lot of fun while watching it. And HELLO! Sam Heughan! He was a sexy spy through and through. I want to see him in more movies. But also, never stop making Outlander. haha
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Guys, how freaking sweet was this movie?! I mean, I’ve watched it twice now and both times I’ve been left smiling from ear to ear. Totally recommend it to anyone who loves teen romance movies.
Crazy Rich Asians – So I’ve seen this movie twice now. Loved it both times! Cried the second time I watched it for some weird reason. Maybe I was getting my period or something. But anyway, it’s just a freaking delight of a movie. Can’t wait for the sequel.
I went to no concerts this month and my heart felt it. By the end of the month I was wishing for something good to come up, but no luck. I just kept reminding myself that I get to see Taylor Swift in September!!
Daredevil (Seasons 1 & 2) – It took me an episode or two to really get hooked but once it happened I was all in!
Jessica Jones (Season 1) – Wowzers! This show was so, so great! And that villain! Yeah, I loved it.
Sharp Objects – I think they did a fantastic job adapting this story for television. The atmosphere was dreamy and languid and it made me feel that way when watching it. The ending felt a bit rushed but it was creatively done.
