Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

Happy Music Monday! This is a weekly feature hosted here at Gone with the Words where I post a video of a song that reminds me of something or someone I’ve read, anything that relates to it in my mind. I’d love to know what songs remind you of certain books or character. Create a post and leave the link or just tell me about them in the comments!!

I read this book about two weeks ago. It has yet to leave me. I just keep coming back to it! Read my review of Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher HERE.The song How to Save a Life by The Fray has gotten more than its share of airplay, and it may a song some people just can’t listen to anymore because of that, but there’s no way to deny how touching it is.

This song is for Clay and Hannah. I truly believe Clay would have done more for Hannah if he’d known exactly what was going on. Or he would have known who to talk to for help. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the opportunity to help his friend. Her mind was made up. And she knew that about Clay. It’s why I think she ends up pushing him away. So here’s to them:

“Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life”

An excellent choice of songs for this book even if I haven't read it yet, though it is on my reading list. :)
