Review: 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

Book Reviews

99 Percent Mine was one of my most anticipated 2019 releases and oh man, it did not disappoint. I was a HUGE fan of Sally Thorne’s debut, The Hating Game. To be honest, I didn’t even read the synopsis and just went off author love. So once I began reading it, I was incredibly surprised by this tough exterior chick we were being presented with. Darcy is one of those girls who doesn’t know how pretty they are and the effect they have on other people. I loved getting to know her more vulnerable sides. Her biggest vulnerability being Tom Valeska, her childhood friend, and twin brother’s best friend. Tom was a quiet one at first but once he got reacquainted with Darcy after not seeing her for a long while we got to see the fun side of him.

Darcy and her twin brother Jamie have hired Tom to remodel their grandmother’s beach house. Jamie isn’t in the picture a lot in the beginning because he lives somewhere else, but when he gets there, you’ll find him charming in that arrogant way. Tom has been Darcy’s dream man since he first walked into her life at 8 years old. I loved how she would confess truths to him as jokes because that’s something I do sometimes. The chemistry between these two is just like a boiling pot of water. It starts as a simmer and soon enough you know it’ll be bubbling over. This build-up of sexual frustration between the two of them was so delicious. I loved how Sally Thorne wrote it at just the right pace. And the sex scenes…. WOW. Like, wow. They were so steamy!!

In the end, Darcy and Tom find their happy place. It also left it a little open for a Jamie book… maybe? I can already see it! And I can tell you I’d love it.

Audiobook Notes

This audiobook was performed to perfection. I was not reading this fast enough because of life and work so I check it out from my library and it was the best decision I could have made. Jayme Mattler read it in a perfect tone. I really got a better sense of Darcy, especially, because of her narration. I highly recommend it on audio.

Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s travelled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.
