I’ve been a fan of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series since it first came out, and so I’ve always wanted to try Psy-Changeling. The only problem is that there’s like a billion out in this series already! So the challenge of starting at the beginning was a bit overwhelming at first. I figured the easiest way to get to them would be via audiobooks, and when I saw Slave to Sensation on sale on Audible.com, I jumped at the chance to own it and finally get started on this series.
The world of the Psy-Changeling series is one of power. The Psy control the world and the Changelings are considered an inferior species. I loved learning how it came to be this way and it was such an interesting and somewhat insane idea from the Psy. Turns out they think emotions are not for them. No, thanks. I’m good not having feelings ever again. Emotions are messy and they drive us to do crazy things! Let’s get rid of them. That’s pretty much how it went down.
I loved seeing the moments when Lucas would question if Sascha was a normal Psy, and also the unwanted reactions Sascha would have for Lucas and his world. I really liked both characters but didn’t find any attributes that made me looooove them.
I did guess correctly as to who was behind the attacks, so there was no element of surprise for me there. What I really did love was the dynamics of the pack. I found the other members intriguing enough to continue the series.
The narrator, Angela Dawe, does a fantastic job with this audiobook. Her pacing was dead-on and her dramatizations felt very genuine and were fantastic. Since she narrates the rest of the series, and I enjoyed her work, I may consider continuing it via audiobooks. I’m looking forward to getting to know these very intriguing Changelings a little better.

Dive into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind—and none of the heart…
In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation”— the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was….
Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy co-existence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion—and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities—or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation…
