Top Ten Tuesday: Goals For 2014

I think last year I set some pretty reasonable and attainable goals and I’ve decided to keep and continue some of the same ones because they’re just a good guideline for myself. This list will be a mix of old and new ones…

I Want to Continue to…

1. Read more books from my shelves…
I didn’t really keep to this one last year. I read *some* more, but not many. This year I WILL do it!

2. Complete reading series that have ended…
I didn’t really keep to this one either…I have maybe even acquired *more* series endings, lol. I think I may plan to do this as a challenge of sorts for myself. Like, read only endings for a month, or something like that.

3. Purchase even less books this year than last year until I have made a significant dent in my shelves…
I was *really* good about not buying many physical copies in 2013! I did buy a bunch of ebooks when they were on sale though. AND! There’s a second part to this one that I’ll talk about below…

4. Try to make it out to even more author events…
The thing about these events is that they’re usually on nights I work late, and they’re usually at Blue Willow Bookshop, which is about 40 minutes from my house, so on my late work nights, it’s not doable. Here’s hoping there’s more on nights I can make it out! :D

5. I will not request ARCs and limit my egalley requests to ones I’m dying to read…
I ended up going to both TLA and ALA this year, so I acquired more physical ARCs than I anticipated to at the beginning of 2013…This year I *might* make it out to TLA, but other than that, I cannot request any ARCs that aren’t egalleys. I have no room! There’s also something else I’m wanting to do that applies to physical ARCs and to Goal #3…

6. Read more of what I want to read, when I want to read it…
This worked out REALLY well for my sanity in 2013, so I’m DEF planing to do the same this year…

7. Take blogging breaks when needed…
I may not need to, but if I DO, I WILL, and I will be ok with it because it is TOTALLY ok!

8. Will switch out a lot of physical copies I own for ecopies…
This one goes along with numbers 3 and 5. I’ve made a mess of my bookshelves, you guys, and the only way I can be ok with getting rid of books I DO want to read is to acquire their digital counterparts. There’s always so many ebooks on sale, so while it’ll be a slow process, it’ll work out best in the end. So, this kind of contradicts #3, but it’s a MUST, so it’s excused in my book. I’m also going to be buying ecopies of physical ARCs to clean up even more space.

9. Will be a better member of the blogging community…
I have been awful, just AWFUL, this past year. I’m SORRY! :( This has to end this year. I will work hardest on this.

One nonbookish share…

10. Get Healthy…

Not only to get sexy back, but to get HEALTHY. I don’t want to compromise my heart or other parts anymore, you guys! I’m tired of being tired. So better eats and exercise for this girl. :D

OMG! Love your gif! I need to get more healthier too… My college student diet will come to haunt me. I’m sure. & It’s not on my list, but I definitely need to cut down spending on books. Again, soon enough my college loans will come to haunt me. I better start being more money wise now.

    GOOD LUCK! :)

Ah, I could never get read of my books! Oh, and I need to read a bunch of my owned books to (and several ARCs as well). THERE ARE JUST SO MANY. It’s seriously a never ending list. Good luck on your goals!

I totally relate to your list. I want to stop buying new books and start reading the books that I already have. I keep buying books and keep meaning to read them but it’s starting to get out of control.

I definitely need to read more books on my shelves before going crazy with the ARCs. It’s silly too, as I have a ridiculous amount of books on my kindle, so it’s not like I’m going to run out of reading material! :D I hope you achieve your goals!

That ‘healthy’ one should apply to me as well but usually fails. XD
Others are great, like less buying, less ARCs. I need that as well. I’m just fixing my NG score atm. :)
    Happy reading!

Yes for #6! That’s such a good way of doing it. I’m also trying to read more of my own books and… while I’ve been good at not buying new ones (my new ban is no books unless I’m buying with a gift card), I’ve been frequenting the library and reading library books (not a bad thing, just doesn’t help my bookshelves).

    Good luck this year, Jess!

#1, 2, and 9 are also on my least, and I also agree with taking a blogging break when needed. It really helped my sanity this past semester when my academic workload skyrocketed. And working out and getting in better shape is one of my personal goals for this coming year. I always get to a good start at the beginning of the semester but stop going as exams start hitting me.

I have made it a point to read more books from my shelves this year as well. It’s so hard to not get swept up in the “OOO shiny new books” wave that all my “older” books get ignored. Good luck!

These are all really great, Jess! I’m with you on cleaning up my shelves and getting moving more. Good luck this year!

I’m working on getting healthy this year as well! My work is having a competition, so that will help.

I have the same problem with attending events at Blue Willow. I live about 40 minutes away (east) as well, and after work it just doesn’t feel worth it to drive so far :-\

    Good luck on your goals!

I have really been loving all the goals people have been setting for themselves for 2014. I like seeing the similarities in the majority of them. I want to comment more, and read more of the books I own and so on and so forth.

You’re goals are totally doable, so good luck!

Is it bad that I think that the horizontal running looks exhausting? I feel like that would really work your core muscles.

ANYWAY – these are great goals for 2014, and I definitely need to accomplish some of these myself. I certainly need to be way more selective of the books I request from Netgalley and Edelweiss. It’s too much. Oh and definitely I need to read more books from my shelves instead of buying new ones. I have so many unread books right now, it’s crazy. The books I read the most are library books.

Anyway, good luck! I hope 2014 is amazing.

Hopefully we can motivate each other to read from our shelves, but damn those eBook sales. Sometimes those are just as bad as putting another book on the shelf. Is the guilt worse? I think so! You can sort of hide it on the eBook but it still shows up in your checking account. haha.

Here’s to getting fit! :) Sending you positive vibes!!! xo

Dude, I AM SO with you on #8. I’ve been doing it for quite awhile now. Want a tip? It will take you awhile but it is totally worth it, I promise. Create a wishlist on Amazon or Barnes & Noble or wherever you buy your ebooks and label it Physical Conversion. I use Amazon. I go to my wishlist daily (sometimes obsessively two or three times a day) and arrange my wishlist by price (low to high). If some of my physical books are cheap (I go up to $3.99) I purchase them. I have even snatched up a few of them for free; most recently a Rick Riordan.

Good luck with all of your 2014 goals!! :D

I want to try to make it out to more author signings too! But I stay in a smaller town and always have to travel. Hopefully I can get some time off at work! I hope these goals will be easy for you! Great list!

Horizontal Running….That made me laugh :-) I want to attend some author events also, I have never been to a single one!

New follower on bloglovin, looking forward to hearing/reading more.
